Rock Valley Attached Garage Sustains Extensive Damage In Fire

Rock Valley, Iowa — A garage and its contents were damaged in a fire on Monday, April 13, 2020, in Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 7:30 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a garage fire at 1012 Eighth Avenue in western Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke and flames as they approached the scene. He says there was some concern as there were gas cans and propane cylinders in the garage, but they were able to extinguish the fire before that became a concern and before it got into the house. He says it did extend a little into the attic of the garage.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported. He says the owner was home at the time but got out OK. He says the Hull Fire Department always responds with the Rock Valley Fire Department to structure fires, so their firefighters helped too.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Chief Eshuis reports that there was extensive damage to the attached two-stall garage, but he says he thinks it’s repairable.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
