Rock Valley Man Pleads Not Guilty To Attempted Murder, Other Charges

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley man who is accused of Attempted Murder and other charges after allegedly running over another man with his car, has pled not guilty to the charges.

The charges against 39-year-old Jaime Martinez Montiel stem from an incident in downtown Rock Valley in the early hours of Sunday, July 12th. Authorities say Martinez Montiel had gotten into a verbal argument with another individual. The argument allegedly continued into the street, when the alleged victim reportedly confronted confronted Martinez Montiel on the side of the road. Police say Martinez Montiel initially backed his vehicle away from the victim, then allegedly drove forward toward the victim, striking him with the front tires causing him to go under the vehicle.  Police say the driver continued dragging the pedestrian under the car until the pedestrian was run over by the rear wheels.  The driver of the vehicle then fled the area after the collision.

Martinez Montiel was arrested later that morning and charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony, and Serious Injury by Vehicle, which is a Class D Felony.

Martinez Montiel entered a written plea of Not Guilty to the charges last week, according to online court records.
