Hawarden, Iowa — A Rock Valley man was taken to a hospital after an accident on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 4:00 p.m., 43-year-old Pieter Hanekom of Rock Valley was driving a 2009 Peterbilt semi-tractor eastbound on Highway 10. Hanekom reported a tire ruptured, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck entered the north ditch, where it came to a rest on the driver’s side.
The Hawarden Ambulance took Hanekom to Hawarden Regional Health.
Damage to the Peterbilt and trailer was estimated at $40,000.
The sheriff’s office reports that the Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Fire Department, and Hawarden Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
