Rock Valley Trucker Injured In Icy Friday Morning Crash

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon emergency crews, along with Sheldon Police Officers and O’Brien County Deputies, were called out about 8:00 Friday morning for a traffic crash north of Sheldon.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred about two-and-one-half miles north of Highway 18 on Highway 60, when a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, owned by Eisma Express of Ireton and driven by 55-year-old Daryl Kats of Rock Valley, was northbound on Highway 60.

Deputies say Kats lost control of the truck on the ice and frost-covered roadway. The truck left the roadway to the left, crossed the center median, then jackknifed blocking both southbound lanes of traffic.

Kats was transported by SCAT to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the report.

Damage to Kats’ tractor-trailer was estimated at $5,000.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Sheldon Police, Sheldon Fire Department, Sheldon EMA and the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.
