Salvage Car Destroyed In Saturday Fire

Inwood, Iowa — A car was destroyed in a fire on Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Assistant Chief Mark Klarenbeek, the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of a car on fire.

The chief says the fire department saw flames from the tires as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Assistant Chief Klarenbeek says no injuries were reported. The fire department was assisted by Inwood Rescue Squad.

He says someone was cutting the axle off of the salvage vehicle to be used on another vehicle when the incident took place, and the cause of the fire appeared to be sparks from the cutting tool.

Assistant Chief Klarenbeek reports that the vehicle was already a salvage vehicle, but was pretty much destroyed in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 30 minutes.
