Sanborn, Iowa — A two vehicle collision in Sanborn funneled Highway 18 down to one lane of traffic for a time Thursday afternoon.
According to information from the Iowa State Patrol, the mishap happened around 12:30 Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 18 and Prospect Street in Sanborn, when a 2018 Toyota SUV, driven by 75-year-old Mary Ellen Iedema, of Sanborn, reportedly pulled into the path of a 2005 Peterbilt, driven by 37-year-old Brandon Tewes, of Peterson.
Witnesses tell KIWA rescue personnel used the Jaws of Life to extricate Iedema from her SUV. Fortunately, troopers say neither Iedema nor Tewes were injured in the collision.
Damage to Iedema’s SUV were estimated at $10,000, with damage estimates for the Peterbilt coming in at $4,000.
According to the accident report, Iedema was cited for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign.
