Sanborn Man Charged With Firearms, Alcohol Charges

Hartley, Iowa — A Sanborn man faces felony and misdemeanor charges following an incident Sunday afternoon in Hartley.

Court records indicate that Hartley Police were dispatched to the call of a fight at a Hartley residence in which 25-year-old Colton Lee Spence Vreeman is accused of intimidating another person with a handgun, firing a shot from the firearm and possessing the firearm while intoxicated.

According to court records, Spence Vreeman allegedly had possession of a handgun and while running down the stairs at a Hartley residence, the gun discharged. Officers say they discovered a bullet hole in the wall near the bottom of the staircase.

Police say their investigation led to the arrest of Spence Vreeman on a charge of Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony, as well as Reckless Use Of A Firearm causing Property Damage, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession or Carrying Of Dangerous Weapons While Intoxicated, a Serious Misdemeanor.

Spence Vreeman was taken to the O’Brien County Jail. Online court records indicate he’s scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing in O’Brien County Magistrate Court on September13th.
