Sheldon, Iowa — One pickup was destroyed and a garage, a house, and another pickup were damaged in a fire early on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Sheldon.
According to Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt, at about 2:45 a.m., the Sheldon Fire Company was called to the report of a pickup on fire at 718 9th Street in Sheldon.
The chief says the fire department saw the 2006 GMC pickup on fire, with the attached garage next to it also on fire as they approached the scene. He says they began with an aggressive attack on the main pickup and also put out the fires elsewhere.
Hindt says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire was that the pickup had been driven behind the house and it was stuck between the house and a tree. In trying to get it free, the pickup overheated and started on fire.
Chief Hindt reports that the pickup that started the fire was totaled, there was severe damage to the south side of the garage at 718 9th Street, and also siding was melted at 908 8th Avenue next door. Another pickup parked near the first one also sustained heat damage to the side of the box near the rear.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours and fifteen minutes. He tells us the Sheldon Police Department and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance as well.
