Sheldon Man Accused Of Sex Abuse Of Minor

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man has been arrested on a warrant for charges related to the alleged sex abuse of a minor.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 25-year-old Arturo Morales Romero of Sheldon is accused of fondling a child between January 1st of 2021 and March 31st of 2023. He was arrested on a warrant on January 1st, 2024.

Morales Romero was charged with second degree sexual abuse, a class B felony; and lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony. If convicted of a class B felony, Morales Romero could face up to 25 years in prison. If convicted of a class C felony, he could face up to 10 years in prison. He’s also charged with a misdemeanor count of indecent contact with a child.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on January 22nd.

At last report, Morales Romero remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar, in lieu of a $37,500 cash or surety bond.
