Sheldon Man Faces Felony Interference With Official Acts Charge After Traffic Stop

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man has been arrested on a felony interference with official acts charge after a traffic stop in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 24-year-old Enrique Guevara Perez of Sheldon is accused of resisting arrest. He was arrested on Saturday.

In his statement, the officer states that Guevara Perez was stopped for two equipment violations. He says the vehicle slow rolled for a while before stopping, but once the vehicle stopped, the officer says he saw Guevara Perez jump from the drivers seat to the rear passenger seat. He says once field sobriety tests were completed Guevara Perez took off running on foot. After a short foot chase the defendant was caught.

Guevara Perez was charged with interference with official acts inflicting serious injury, a class D felony. If convicted, Guevara Perez could face up to five years in prison. He faces other charges including a misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated, second offense.

Guevara Perez faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, August 22nd.

Guevara Perez was booked into the O’Brien County Jail, but was released the same day.
