Sheldon Man Injured In Freak Accident

sheldon police pd car door logoSheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man was injured in a freak accident Tuesday afternoon, when his SUV ran over his legs.

The Sheldon Police Department says 72-year old Gary Doppenberg had parked his 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe in front of the post office.  Doppenberg told police that his new vehicle has a push-button ignition, and he thought he had put the vehicle in park and turned off the engine.  He told police that as he exited the vehicle, it began to roll forward, causing him to fall.  The vehicle’s driver’s side rear wheel then reportedley ran over Doppenberg’s ankles and left leg, before crossing the street and striking a parked 2011 Dodge Ram pickup.

Doppenberg was transported to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.

Damage to Doppenberg’s Tahoe and the parked Dodge pickup were each estimated at $15-hundred.
