Sheldon Man Taken To Hospital After Paullina Area Accident

Paullina, Iowa– A Sheldon man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Paullina on Monday, July 24, 2023.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 3:20 p.m., 20-year-old Devin Heronemus of Sheldon was driving a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer westbound on 430th Street, three miles north and three west of Paullina.

The report says that Heronemus had been following a maroon dump truck, and according to the trooper, was following too closely and did not see the brake lights of the dump truck due to the dust cloud from the gravel road. The trooper says Heronemus swerved to avoid hitting the dump truck and then failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of 430th street and Oriole Avenue, or L40, and went through the intersection. The Heronemus Chevy went into the west ditch of Oriole Avenue, and came to rest in the west ditch.

The Paullina Ambulance took Heronemus to the Orange City Health System Hospital.

Heronemus’s Chevy Trailblazer sustained $6000 in damages, and he was charged with following too closely.
