Sheldon Teen Injured In Clay County Crash

Clay County, Iowa — A Sheldon teen, who currently lives in Sioux Falls, was injured when her pickup was struck by a semi in Clay County, Iowa Wednesday afternoon.

Clay County authorities say 18-year old Jazmine Roos, of Sioux Falls, was attempting to make a u-turn on ice-covered Highway 18 in her 2004 Dodge Ram pickup, when a 2003 Freightliner semi, driven by 56-year old Brian Bargstadt, of Randolph, Nebraska was westbound, and attempted to stop his fully-loaded semi when he realized the Roos’ pickup was spinning on the roadway. Bargstadt told deputies he started to lose control of his truck as he attempted to stop. Deputies say Roos’ pickup was unable to gain any speed on the ice, and was rear-ended by Bargstadt’s Freightliner. The pickup was propelled into the north crop field by the impact, according to authorities.

According to the crash report, Roos was taken to the Spencer Municipal Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Deputies say charges are pending in the crash.
