Sheldon Woman Arrested On Felony Domestic Abuse Charge

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon woman has been arrested on felony assault charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 55-year-old Kristy Russell of Sheldon is accused of assaulting her husband. Since she had two prior convictions for domestic abuse on her record, this time the offense was upgraded to a felony. She was arrested last week.

In his statement, the officer says he met with the husband, who told them that he and his wife got into an argument and it got physical. He accused her of kicking him and scratching his face. The officer says when they met up with Russell, she was allegedly extremely intoxicated and couldn’t remember details of the incident.

Russell was charged with domestic abuse assault, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, Russell could face up to five years in prison. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of interference with official acts.

Russell faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, October 24.

At last report, Russell remained in the O’Brien County County Jail in Primghar.
