Sioux Center, Iowa — Sioux Center firefighters had a mess to clean up Friday evening.
About 5:20 p.m., Sioux County Communications sent out a page for the Sioux Center Fire Department and Ambulance, advising they were needed in front of Agrivision on Highway 75 for a used oil spill.
Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland says a 200-gallon tank of used oil was not tied down and fell off a flatbed truck, onto the highway, and spilled its contents.
Van Holland says they closed one lane of the highway in the area, and they cleaned up the oil with the help of payloader buckets full of sand and Floor-Dri.
Sioux Center Police and the Iowa State Patrol were among the other agencies assisting at the scene. Van Holland says at last report, the trooper was going to contact the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to see if they needed to come to the scene.
The Sioux Center Fire Department was on-scene for about an hour and were back in service as of 6:20 p.m.
