Sioux Center Man Charged With Felony Insurance Fraud

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been arrested on felony insurance fraud charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau, 50-year-old Michael Vecchio of Sioux Center is accused of submitting a false insurance claim. He was arrested on Thursday.

In her statement, the agent says that over a year ago, in April of 2023, Vecchio made false statements to Progressive Northern Insurance Company as part of a claim against his policy, for benefits to which he was not entitled. She says Vecchio was involved in an accident while driving a vehicle without the owner’s permission. She tells us Vecchio contacted Progressive to initiate a claim, and in so doing, made false oral statements that the vehicle owner had given him permission to drive it.

Vecchio was charged with insurance fraud – presenting false information, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

No court dates have yet been set in the case.

At last report, Vecchio remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5000 cash or surety bond.
