Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been arrested on a felony criminal mischief charge after an incident in that town.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sioux Center Police Department, 20-year-old David Vander Zwaag of Sioux Center is accused of making threats and vandalizing items in a home. He was arrested on Thursday.

In his statement, the officer says Vander Zwaag made threatening actions and comments towards two household members, placing them in fear for their safety. He’s also accused of destroying several items within the household, causing more than $1500 but less than $10,000 in damage. The officer says that while Vander Zwaag was being taken into custody, he began resisting responding officers, requiring him to be placed in additional restraints to prevent injury to law enforcement officials.

He faces a preliminary hearing on March 17th.
