Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Sioux Center motorcyclist suffered suspected serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon in Sioux Center.
According to the Sioux Center Police Department accident report, the crash happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12th, near a T-intersection on 11th Avenue Northeast.
According to the report, 68-year-old Armando Hurtado of Sioux Center was driving a 1984 Honda motorcycle westbound when a southbound 2024 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 27-year-old Collin Matthew Den Herder of Sioux Center attempted to turn westbound and failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
The report states Den Herder told officers he did not see the motorcycle until after the collision. Hurtado reportedly told officers the pickup did not stop at the stop sign before pulling out into his path.
According to the report, Hurtado suffered suspected serious or incapacitating injuries and was transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health. The report also states Hurtado was wearing a DOT-compliant helmet at the time of the crash.
Den Herder was not injured. The report says both vehicles sustained minor damage.
According to the report, Den Herder was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
