Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center teen faces four separate felony charges in connection with a pair of incidents that reportedly happened between December of last year, and March 2nd of this year.
According to court documents, 18-year-old Roberto Cruz-Cespedes of Sioux Center is accused of writing himself a $2,000 check on someone else’s account, back on December 11th, and signing the account holder’s name to that check, then depositing the funds into his own checking account. A month later, the victim’s daughter reportedly confronted Cruz-Cespedes, who is said to have asked her not to tell her parents, and that he would pay the money back.
Then, on March 2nd, Cruz-Cespedes is accused of writing himself a second $2,000 check on the account of the same victim, and again depositing it into his own account. Court records indicate that the victim verified that he had never issued either check to the defendant, and that the signature on the checks was not written by him.
Cruz-Cespedes was arrested by Sioux Center Police this past Saturday, on two counts of Theft in the 2nd Degree, and two counts of Forgery, all of which are Class D Felonies. Jail records indicate he was also charged with Contempt of Court for allegedly violating a No Contact Order.
Jail records indicate Cruz-Cespedes was released after posting 10% of a $5,000 bond.
