Sioux County Fire Departments Respond To Fire Calls

Rock Valley, Iowa — The Rock Valley Fire Department was called out on Sunday afternoon.

Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis says they were paged about 4:20 p.m. on Sunday to a call of smoke coming from vents at an apartment complex at 2633 East Meadow Road.

Eshuis says the fire department arrived to find wires in a furnace had shorted out and were causing the smoke. He says the damage was limited to the furnace unit itself.

He says they ventilated the building with exhaust fans to get rid of the smokey smell.

Hull firefighters also responded, as they do to all possible Rock Valley structure fires. Eshuis says the 26 firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half an hour.

Then, just into Monday, at about 10 minutes before 1 a.m., the Sioux Center fire department was called to the Southview Apartments at Dordt University.

Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland says that a charger unit for an electric scooter in one of the apartments had overheated and started on fire. He says the damage was limited to a little carpet, the charger, and the scooter. He says they put it out with a couple of fire extinguishers.

About 30 firefighters responded, and were there for about 45 minutes, says Van Holland.
