Sioux Deputies Seek Help In Accident Case

Hawarden, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in gathering information about a single-vehicle accident early Friday morning near Hawarden.

Sioux County authorities say shortly before 5:00 Friday morning they investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 460th Street and Buchanan Avenue, one-quarter mile southeast of Hawarden.

According to authorities, they discovered a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup, owned by Shelby Schmitt of Hawarden, in the ditch northeast of the intersection. Deputies say prior to the accident, the GMC was being driven westbound on 460th Street when the driver attempted to turn north onto Buchanan Avenue, lost control, entered the east ditch and rolled. Authorities say the driver left the location of the accident and was not located; the owner of the vehicle later reported that someone had stolen the pickup from their garage in Hawarden.

It is unknown if the driver sustained any injuries.

The GMC sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to contact the sheriff’s office. If you wish to remain anonymous you are encouraged to use the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office Text-A-Tip program.
