Sioux Falls Man Fights With Firefighters After Accident

Larchwood, Iowa — A Sioux Falls man was arrested after an accident near Larchwood on Saturday.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started with a call to their communications center. They say the caller reported a one-vehicle accident located at the intersection of Beech Avenue and Highway 9 west of Larchwood. If you’re headed westbound on 9, that’s the last intersection before the road curves due north and heads toward Grand Falls Casino and the state line.

First responders were paged, but when they got there, a man — later identified as CJ Eaglefeather Pigney of Sioux Falls — became combative with them. The sheriff’s office says Pigney then left the scene of the accident and walked to a home south of the intersection where Larchwood firefighters tried to stop him from going further onto the property. We are told Pigney became more combative, getting into a physical altercation with a Larchwood firefighter pushing him and spitting in his face.

After deputies arrived, Pigney was quickly taken into custody and brought to Avera Merrill Pioneer hospital in Rock Rapids where he was medically cleared, according to the sheriff’s office.

They say Pigney was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including operating while intoxicated: first offense, Possession of controlled substance: 1st offense, Interference with official acts, assault on persons in certain occupations, No valid driver’s license, trespassing: first offense, and failure to provide proof of financial liability-accident.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, Larchwood Fire Department, Larchwood EMS, and Trackside Towing assisted with the response to the incident.
