Skid Loader Destroyed In Alvord Fire

Alvord, Iowa — A skid loader was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, near Alvord.

According to Alvord firefighter Tanner Van Middendorp, about 11:25 a.m., the Alvord Fire Department was called to the report of a skid loader fire at 2541 210th Street, one mile east of the north side of Alvord.

The chief says the fire department saw the skid loader’s cab was fully engulfed in flame as they approached the scene. He says the farmer had pulled the skid loader out of the cattle yard and the firefighters used water and foam to fight the fire.

Van Middendorp says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical in nature and appears to have started in the engine compartment.

Firefighter Van Middendorp reports that the skid loader was totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for 25 to 30 minutes.
