Plymouth County, Iowa — A stolen vehicle from Sioux City led multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon in Plymouth County.
According to information from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, about 2:45 Friday afternoon their office was advised of a stolen vehicle from Sioux City. Authorities were informed the vehicle was reported to be on K22 near C44, which is west of Merrill, causing Plymouth County Deputies and Iowa State Patrol Troopers to respond to that area.
Authorities say a Plymouth County Deputy located the vehicle traveling east on Highway 3, about 5 miles west of Le Mars. Deputies reportedly attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled, reaching speeds of approximately 112 mph at times, leading law enforcement through Le Mars on Highway 3, then continuing to travel rural Plymouth County roads until north of Remsen, where a trooper performed a PIT maneuver (Pursuit Intervention Technique), causing the suspect vehicle to end up in the ditch.
The driver of the car, who authorities identified as 27-year-old Denise Sanchez, was taken to the Plymouth County Jail on charges of: Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, a Class C Felony; Eluding While Participating in a Felony, a Class D Felony; and 1st Offense Operating While Impaired (OWI), a Serious Misdemeanor.
Deputies say numerous traffic charges will be filed after the investigation is complete.
Plymouth County Deputies were assisted by the Le Mars and Remsen Police Departments and the Iowa State Patrol.
