Royal, Iowa — A Spencer man faces a trio of felony charges in the aftermath of a Sunday afternoon stabbing in Royal.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, about 4:10 Sunday afternoon their deputies responded to a stabbing in progress at a residence in Royal. Upon arrival, deputies say they found 26-year-old Cassandra Bicking, who had been stabbed multiple times. She was transported to Spencer Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Authorities say the suspect, Matthew Young, had fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival. He was located near his residence in Spencer by Spencer Police, taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Jail.
According to authorities, Young is charged with Attempted Murder, a Class “B” Felony, Willful Injury, a Class “C” Felony and Going Armed with Intent, a Class “D” Felony.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department, Royal Fire and Rescue, the Spencer Hospital and Bud’s Service.
