Spencer Man Charged With Sexual Exploitation In O’Brien County

Sutherland, Iowa — A Spencer man has been arrested on sexual exploitation charges in O’Brien County.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sutherland Police Department, 74-year-old Martin Arthur of Spencer is accused of attempting to meet a 15-year-old for sexual activity. He was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the officer says Arthur is alleged to have engaged in sexual conversations with, and came to meet with, what he thought was a 15-year-old, but it was actually an officer.

Arthur was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor-cause to engage in act, a class B felony, and grooming, a class D felony. If convicted, on the class B felony, he could face up to twenty-five years in prison, with five years on the class D felony.

He is to report for a hearing on February 3rd.

Arthur was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar and was released the same day after posting bond.
