O’Brien County, Iowa — A Spencer pair were arrested Wednesday night after leading law enforcement officers from multiple departments on a pursuit through eastern O’Brien and western Clay Counties.
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, around 9:40 Wednesday evening an O’Brien County Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2011 Honda CRV near the intersection of 360th Street and White Avenue. Authorities say the Honda failed to stop, leading to a pursuit that ran through O’Brien and Clay counties, at times reaching speeds of 91 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputies say the pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in the 3700 mile of 110th Street.
According to authorities, 33-year-old, Madison Selzer and 29-year-old, Joseph Peterson, both of Spencer, were arrested. The vehicle they were traveling in was reported stolen out of California. The license plate on the rear of the vehicle was also stolen out of California off of a different vehicle.
Deputies say a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle and controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were allegedly located.
Madison Selzer was identified by authorities as the driver and was charged with the following:
– Theft 2nd Degree, Class D Felony
– Possession of a Controlled Substance-Meth 3rd Offense, Class D Felony
– Eluding-Speed Over 25 Over the Limit, 2nd Offense, Class D Felony
– Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense, Aggravated Misdemeanor
– Driving While Barred, Aggravated Misdemeanor
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor
– Speeding 91mph in a 55mph zone, Simple Misdemeanor
– Fail to Yield Half the Roadway, Simple Misdemeanor
– Driving While Suspended, Simple Misdemeanor
Joseph Peterson was allegedly the passenger in the vehicle and was arrested on out of county arrest warrants and after the completion of a search warrant on the vehicle was charged with the following:
– Possession of Controlled Substance-Meth 3rd Offense, Class D Felony
– Possession of Controlled Substance-Marijuana 3rd Offense, Class D Felony
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor
Assisting the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office with this pursuit was the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Hartley Police Department.
