Spirit Lake Man Faces Felony Charge After Standoff

Spirit Lake, Iowa — A Spirit Lake man is behind bars after a weekend standoff in that city.

According to Spirit Lake Police Chief Shane Brevik, on Sunday evening, April 23, 2023, in the 10:00 p.m. hour, they received a call that a male was allegedly brandishing a handgun and making threats towards others inside an apartment at 2013 32nd Street (the Hawthorn Apartments).

They tell us that when they got there, the officers were able to safely remove the victims from the apartment, however, the suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Brian De Jesus Alameda of Spirit Lake, remained armed inside the apartment.

They say that they were able to eventually talk him into putting his firearm down and surrendering. De Jesus Alameda was subsequently arrested and booked into the Dickinson County jail. He faces a charge of going armed with intent, a class D felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of domestic abuse assault with the intent to inflict serious injury, assault with intent to inflict serious injury, possession of controlled substance – marijuana 1st offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Spirit Lake Police Department tells us the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Okoboji, Arnold’s Park, and Milford police departments assisted on the scene.
