Orange City, Iowa — A St. Paul, Minnesota man has been arrested on felony contraband charges after a traffic stop on Highway 60 in Sioux County.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa State Patrol, 32-year-old Armando Gatica Bruno of St. Paul is accused of introducing contraband into a correctional facility. He was arrested on Monday.
In his statement, the trooper says he stopped Gatica Bruno’s vehicle for window tint, but when he approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of alcohol, and administered field sobriety tests, which Gatica Bruno failed, so he was arrested and taken to the Sioux County Jail in Orange City. But in the booking area of the jail, the trooper says it was discovered that Gatica Bruno had a controlled substance.
He was charged with introducing intoxicants or drugs into an institution, a class D felony. If convicted, Gatica Bruno could face up to five years in prison.
He faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, May 7th.
At last report, Gatica Bruno remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $2000 bond.
