Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley teen and a Hull woman were taken to a hospital after an accident on Sunday, January 1 near Rock Valley.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:10 p.m., 16-year-old Mitchel Vant Hul of Rock Valley was driving a 2008 Chevrolet northbound Garfield Avenue, two miles east of Rock Valley. They report that 52-year-old David Wielenga of Hull was driving a 2010 Chevrolet eastbound on Highway 18. The report alleges that Vant Hul failed to stop for the stop sign at Highway 18 and struck Wielenga in the intersection.
The Rock Valley Ambulance took Vant Hull and a passenger in Wielenga’s vehicle, 51-year-old Kimberly Wielenga of Hull to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
The Vant Hul Chevy sustained about $6,500 in damage. The Wielenga Chevy sustained approximately $4,500 in damage.
Vant Hul was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance crew and Rock Valley Police Department assisted them with the accident.
