Rock Valley, Iowa — A Texas woman has been arrested on a felony child endangerment charge after a good samaritan report in Rock Valley.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Rock Valley Police Department, 29-year-old Rudy Guillen Perez of Beaumont, Texas is accused of whipping a child with a cell phone charger cord. She was arrested on Monday.
In his statement, the officer says the police department was called to check on a situation after a child is alleged to have approached a good samaritan, asking them for help and telling them that he was hurt by a family member. After an investigation, officers believe that Guillen Perez did whip the child with the cord numerous times. The officer says Guillen Perez is the child’s legal guardian, and the act resulted in bodily injury, bruising, and emotional harm.
Guillen Perez was charged with child endangerment causing bodily injury, a class D felony. If convicted, Guillen Perez could face up to five years in prison.
She faces a preliminary hearing on the charge on Tuesday.
She was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, and was released on Thursday after posting a $5000 bond.
