Northwest Iowa — Fire departments responded to some calls over the weekend.
A payloader was destroyed in a fire on Friday, May 3, 2019 near Doon.
According to Doon Firefighter Roy Van Engen, about 2:50 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a payloader on fire at 2897 220th Street, three miles north and almost a mile east of Doon.
Van Engen says the fire department saw the payloader fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.
Van Engen says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Firefighter Van Engen reports that the newer payloader was totaled in the blaze.
He says firefighters were on scene about a half an hour. Six firefighters and two EMTs responded.

The Ocheyedan Fire Department put out a grass fire this weekend as well. It was at 1795 Tanager Avenue. That’s about a mile and a half south of Ocheyedan’s west side.
Ocheyedan Fire Chief Dan Hartwig says they put out the fire without water, stamping it out and using a firefighting pad. He says a controlled burn of CRP-type ground got out of hand. He says fewer than 10 acres of grass burned. The chief says the 14 firefighters who responded were there for about a half hour.

Then, on Saturday, about 4:30 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to 2735 320th Street. That’s about a mile south and two and a half east of Rock Valley.
Assistant Chief Mike Van Driel says they initially paged Hull firefighters as well, but they were told to disregard.
Van Driel says a burning trash pile got out of control and started burning some grass. He says less than an acre of land burned unintentionally. According to Van Driel, the 10 firefighters who responded put out the fire and were on their way back to Rock Valley in about fifteen minutes.
