Three Injured When Pickup Rear-Ends Semi

Hospers, Iowa — Three people were transported to the hospital in the aftermath of a 2-vehicle crash on Highway 60 near Hospers early Saturday morning.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened shortly before 7 Saturday morning, one mile south of Hospers. According to authorities, a 1996 International semi tractor, driven by 78-year old Arlin Pottebaum of Hospers, was southbound when his truck was struck in the rear by a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by 20-year old Coleman Lawson of Faucett, Missouri.

Deputies say Pottebaum, and his passenger, 60-year old Larry Nitch of Hospers, were transported by Alton Ambulance to the Orange City Helath System Hospital for treatment of injuries, while Lawson was taken to the same hospital by Hospers Ambulance.

Authorities say Lawson was cited for Following Too Close.

Deputies estimate the damage to Pottebaum’s International at approximately $5-thousand, with damage to Lawson’s pickup was estimated at $26-thousand.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by The Hospers Fire Department, Hospers Ambulance and Alton Ambulance.
