Three Sioux City Teens Arrested, Charged In California Murder

Fresno, California — Three Sioux City teens have been arrested and charged in a murder in California.

According to the Fresno County California Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Tyrel Truss of Fresno was killed in their city of Firebaugh.

Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested four people for their alleged role in Truss’ death. They say 18-year-old Isaac Helms, 19-year-old Precious Green, 19-year-old Hannah Haywood all of Sioux City, Iowa; and twenty-year-old Alexa Ramos of Firebaugh, California are all charged with murder and are being held in lieu of one million dollars bail, each.

Officers believe that Truss drove to Mendota, California on Thursday, September 26 to meet a woman he had been communicating with on the internet. They say that once he arrived, the young woman introduced Truss to a group of her friends, which included a young man and two young women. The group asked Truss if he could give them a ride to Firebaugh and he agreed.

But, officers believe that during the ride, shortly before 5:00 p.m., an altercation took place inside the car. They say that Isaac Helms allegedly shot Truss, which caused his car to roll into a parked vehicle in Firebaugh.  Helms, Precious Green, Hannah Haywood, and Alexa Ramos got out of the car and attempted to run away. However, officers with the Firebaugh Police Department who were dispatched to the scene were able to track down these four people and detain them for questioning.

Officers say they found Truss in his car dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Firebaugh Police contacted the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and requested its homicide detectives take over the investigation. Detectives and members of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit responded to interview witnesses and collect evidence. During a search of the scene, a gun believed to be used in the crime was found. Additionally, they tell us that one of the four people detained was found to be in possession of personal items belonging to Truss.

Detectives interviewed the four. Deputies allege that the four had set up the meeting with Truss in order to try and rob him. During the altercation, Helms allegedly fired a gun at Truss.
