Tool Sales Truck May Be Totaled After Fire North Of Rock Rapids

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A tool sales truck was damaged in a fire on Monday, February 17, 2025, near Rock Rapids.

According to Rock Rapids Fire Chief Ed Reck, at about 9:20 a.m., the Rock Rapids Fire Department was called to the report of a vehicle fire in the 1000 mile of Highway 75 near the state line curve, north of Rock Rapids about five miles.

The chief tells us the fire was inside the part of the the truck where the tools are shown and kept. Firefighters extinguished the external fire, then worked on putting out the fire imbedded in the walls.

Reck says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be related to a problem with the power inverter. There was also some concern about a full propane tank for the heater located in the rear of the truck.

Chief Reck reports that there was substantial damage and the truck may be totaled.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half, due a fair amount of overhaul that had to be done. Firefighters also had to deal with outside temperatures around ten degrees below zero.
