Two From Rock Valley Injured In Monday Crash

Rock Valley, Iowa — Two Rock Valley residents were taken to the hospital after an accident in Rock Valley on Monday, April 5, 2021.

The Rock Valley Police Department reports that about 6:40 p.m., 16-year-old Karlie Van Schepen of Rock Valley was driving a 2010 Chevy eastbound on Highway 18 at 21st Avenue in eastern Rock Valley. They report 33-year-old Jose Olevera Martinez of Rock Valley was also eastbound on 18 in a 2001 Chevy pickup.

The report says that Olevera Martinez was waiting to turn northbound onto 21st Avenue. The report alleges Van Schepen was adjusting her air conditioner and rear-ended the Olevera Martinez pickup.

It says the Rock Valley Ambulance took two passengers in the Olevera Martinez pickup to Hegg Health Center Avera Hospital. They were identified as 39-year-old Everly Dauvila Talma and 27-year-old Naftali Lopez Lopez.

Van Schepen’s Chevy sustained about $2500 in damages, and Olevera Martinez’s Chevy pickup sustained about $500 in damages.

Van Schepen was charged with following too closely.
