Sioux Center, Iowa — Both drivers were taken to the hospital Saturday night as the result of a head-on crash north of Sioux Center.
Sioux County deputies were called to the crash shortly before 10:20 Saturday night two miles north of Sioux Center on Highway 75.
According to authorities, 17-year-old Victor Urbina of Rock Valley was northbound in a 1997 Ford Expedition, when his SUV crossed the center line and collided with a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, driven by 51-year-old Leticia De Zamora of Sioux Center. Deputies note that there was blowing snow in the area at the time of the crash.
Authorities say De Zamora and Urbina were both transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to the Sioux Center Health Center for treatment of their injuries.
Deputies estimate damage to each SUV at $9,000.
Urbina was reportedly cited for driving on the wrong side of a two lane highway.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Ambulance, Sioux Center Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
