Ireton, Iowa — Two people were transported to the hospital in the aftermath of a three-vehicle collision near Ireton Thursday morning.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened shortly after 7:10 Thursday morning at the intersection of 420th and Eagle Avenue, four miles north of Ireton.
According to authorities, the mishap occurred when a 2016 Volvo semi-tractor pulling a freight trailer driven by 43-year-old Tetiana Kalinina of Las Vegas was westbound on 420th Street, and stopped for the stop sign at the Eagle Avenue intersection. At the same time, a 2001 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling a livestock trailer driven by 61-year-old Kent Allen of Akron was eastbound on 420th Street and failed to stop at the Eagle Avenue stop sign, and entered the intersection where it was struck by a northbound 2006 Chevrolet pickup driven by 45-year-old Dean Dekkers of Ireton. Deputies say the impact pushed Allen’s semi into the westbound lane where it struck Kalinina’s stopped semi.
According to authorities, Allen’s Peterbilt sustained approximately $20,000 in damage. Dekkers’ pickup sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage, and Kalinina’s Volvo sustained approximately $30,000 in damage.
Kalinina and Dekkers were both transported to Sioux Center Health by the Ireton Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Allen was cited for operating a motor vehicle with defective brakes and failing to obey a stop sign.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department, Ireton Ambulance and the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
