Two Taken To Area Hospitals After Saturday Morning Crash

Hull, Iowa — Two Sioux Center residents were taken to area hospitals in the aftermath of a Saturday morning rollover crash near Hull.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap took place at 10:14 Saturday morning on Highway 18, three miles northwest of Hull.

Deputies say that 22-year-old Fernando Mercado, of Sioux Center, was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup pulling an enclosed trailer eastbound on Highway 18 when he lost control of the vehicle, entered the south ditch; with the vehicle and trailer coming to rest on its side.

Mercado was transported by the Hull Ambulance to Hegg Health Center for treatment of minor injuries. A passenger, 55-year-old Otilia Mercado, of Sioux Center, was transported by the Hull Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to the vehicle and trailer was estimated at $10,000.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hull Ambulance and Hull Fire Department.

Unemployment rate drops in April

The April unemployment rate dropped to two-point-eight percent compared to two-point-nine percent in March. Iowa Workforce Development director, Beth Townsend, says
