Two Taken To Hospital After Workzone Accident At George Corner On Highway 9

Little Rock, Iowa– A Sioux Falls man and a Rock Rapids woman were taken to the hospital after an accident near Little Rock on Wednesday, April 17, 2024

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 7:45 a.m., 60-year-old Scott Rogers of Sioux Falls was driving a 2023 Kia eastbound on Highway 9, at the George corner, six miles west of Little Rock. They tell us that 21-year-old Mackenzie Zech of Rock Rapids was also eastbound on 9 in a 2014 Jeep.

The report says that Rogers was stopped in the eastbound lane behind a construction zone stop sign held by a worker, waiting for the pilot car to guide him into the construction zone. The trooper says Zech did not yield to the construction signs and hit the back of of the Rogers Kia.

The Little Rock Ambulance took Rogers to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids. The Lyon County Ambulance took Zech to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital.

The Rogers Kia sustained $5000 in damages, and Zech’s Jeep sustained $5000 in damages.

Zech was charged with failure to stop in assured clear distance.
