Hawarden Teen Taken To Hospital After Rolling Her Car Near Hawarden Cemetery

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden teen was taken to the hospital after an accident near that community on Monday, December 20, 2021.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:35 p.m., 17-year-old Alyssa Peterson of Hawarden, was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 northbound on Cherry Avenue three miles northeast of Hawarden when she lost control of the vehicle, which left the road, entered the east ditch, and rolled.

The Sheriff’s Office tells us the Hawarden Ambulance took Peterson to Hawarden Regional Healthcare. Her injuries were described as “minor.”

The Pontiac sustained about $8,000 in damage.

Peterson was cited on a charge of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The sheriff’s office reports that the Hawarden Police Department, Sioux County Conservation, the Hawarden Fire Department, and the Hawarden Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
