Man Arrested After Being Found Driving Emergency Vehicle

Inwood, Iowa — A South Dakota man was arrested in Inwood early on Saturday after a deputy found him driving an emergency vehicle.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, their emergency center received a report from an Inwood resident of an intoxicated man who had walked into the resident’s house, appeared to be lost, and left on foot early Saturday morning, August 6, 2022, at approximately 3:00 a.m.

They tell us the deputy responded and attempted to locate the man who had been on foot. The deputy then saw an emergency response minivan owned by Inwood Fire and Rescue traveling westbound on Monroe Avenue. The deputy says this was quite strange since the Inwood Fire and Rescue was not on a call, so he made contact with the vehicle.

The deputy ended up arresting the driver, who was identified as 22-year-old Hunter-Payne Jerred Tennant of Hartford, SD. He is charged with operating while intoxicated first offense, operating without owner’s consent, and failure to have a valid driver’s license. He is also believed to be the man who had walked into the Inwood residence.
