Orange City, Iowa — An Orange City man who was charged with Attempted Murder following an April 28th knife attack, has been sentenced to 29-years in prison.
The case against 28-year-old Arturo Tapia, of Orange City stemmed from an incident on April 28th of this year, when he used a knife to stab a female twelve times, in front of her children, at an Orange City residence, according to Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle. Kunstle says Tapia was, himself, separately stabbed once which stopped the assault.
According to authorities, after the attack, Tapia fled the residence, leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase before crashing near Boyden.
Tapia’s victim was critically wounded in the attack and flown to a Sioux City Hospital, while Tapia was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital, according to authorities. Officials say after his release from the hospital, Tapia was taken into custody, after which he allegedly contacted his female victim in violation of a no contact order.
Tapia was sentenced Monday in Sioux County District Court for Assault While Participating in a Felony, Willful Injury Resulting in Serious Injury, Going Armed With Intent, Child Endangerment, Operating Without Owner’s Consent and Operating While Intoxicated, according to Kunstle. He must serve at least ten years in prison before parole eligibility.
