Orange City Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident At Million Dollar Corner

Maurice, Iowa– An Orange City woman was taken to the hospital after an accident near Maurice on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 10:10 a.m. , 76-year-old Carol Van Wyk of Orange City was driving a 2011 Lexus westbound on Highway 10, at the Million Dollar Corner, two miles north of Maurice. They tell us that 20-year-old Nyla De Jong of Scotts, Michigan was westbound on 10 behind Van Wyk in a 2016 Ford Explorer.

The report says that both vehicles were in the northbound exiting lane at the stop sign. It says Van Wyk moved ahead, then stopped again, and that De Jong didn’t notice Van Wyk had stopped, and rear-ended her vehicle.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Van Wyk to Orange City Health System Hospital. De Jong reported no injuries.

Van Wyk’s Lexus sustained $1500 in damages, and De Jong’s Ford Explorer sustained $500 in damages.

De Jong was charged with following too closely.
