Semi Trailer Damaged In Thursday Morning Blaze

Sheldon, Iowa — A semi trailer and tire were damaged Thursday morning after catching fire.

Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt says his department was called about 10:40 Thursday morning for a fire in the northbound lane of Highway 60 near Exit 31, south of Sheldon. He says that when firefighters arrived in scene they found the back tires of a semi truck on fire.

Hindt says fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze with about 250 gallons of water. The truck’s driver reportedly told authorities that he had blown a tire about one mile earlier and was slowly making his was to Sheldon to get the tire repaired. He said he was alerted by a passerby that the tire was on fire.

Hindt says there was damage to the back tire and rear of the trailer.

The Sheldon Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Police Department. Hindt says his department was back in service at 11:30 Thursday morning.
