Alton, Iowa — A Sheldon teen was taken to a hospital after an accident near Alton on Monday, November 6th, 2023.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:00 p.m., 16-year-old Brierra Van Der Zwaag of Sheldon was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport eastbound on 440th Street, two miles northeast of Alton, when she lost control. The Jeep entered the south ditch and rolled.
The Alton Ambulance took Van Der Zwaag was to Orange City Area Health.
The Jeep sustained approximately $8,500 in damage.
Van Der Zwaag was cited on a charge of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
The sheriff’s office says the Orange City Police Department, Alton Fire Department, and Alton Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
