Sheldon Woman Injured In Thursday Afternoon Accident

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon woman was transported to the hospital after a single-vehicle accident during the noon hour Thursday.

According to a report from the Sheldon Police Department, a 2014 Buick Enclave, driven by 82-year-old Dixie DeJong of Sheldon was westbound on Wilson Street in Sheldon. DeJong reportedly told police she was unable to stop at the intersection with Washington Avenue. Police say her vehicle jumped a curb and proceeded through a yard at the corner of 11th Street and Washington Avenue, until it came to rest.

DeJong was taken by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of what are described as minor injuries.

Damage to DeJong’s Buick was estimated at $2,000, with $1,000 damage estimated to the lawn.

The investigating officer says unknown mechanical issues with DeJong’s Buick may have been a factor in the accident.
