Sioux Center, Iowa — The investigation into a suspicious vehicle in the wee hours of Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of a Sioux City man.
According to court documents, around 12:45 Sunday morning, a Sioux Center police officer reports checking on the occupants of a suspicious vehicle parked in a church lot after hours. According to the officer, he witnessed the vehicle make a series of improper turns. While talking to the driver, he allegedly noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle’s interior.
The officer stated that, upon asking the car’s driver, 21-year-old Gabriel Morales Ramos, for his ID or driver license, Morales Ramos opened his wallet and produced a Guatemalan ID card. The officer also reports that Morales Ramos had in his possession a Minnesota ID card bearing Morales Ramos’ photo with the name and information of someone else.
According to authorities, Morales Ramos failed standardized field sobriety tests, along with a preliminary breath test.
Court documents indicate that Morales Ramos was arrested and taken to the Sioux County Jail on a charge of Forgery, which is a Class D Felony in connection with the fictitious Minnesota ID, as well as 1st Offense OWI, a Serious Misdemeanor.
A Preliminary Hearing in the case is set for Monday, June 13th at 2:00 pm in Sioux County Magistrate Court.
