Sutherland Man Faces Felony Drug Charges

Sutherland, Iowa — A Sutherland man has been arrested on felony drug charges.

According to the O’Brien County arrest log and O’Brien County Attorney Rachael Becker, 31-year-old Dustin Martinez was arrested this week and was charged with possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, a class B felony; failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony; and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to court records, deputies and an Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement agent were serving a federal arrest warrant at an apartment on West First Street in Sutherland when a baggie containing a substance believed to be meth was located in plain view by officers. The baggie of suspected meth weighed approximately 28 grams. Officers noted that Martinez had failed to affix a drug tax stamp on the baggie. They also located a baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, weighing 8 grams.

Court records indicate that Martinez has waived his preliminary hearing, which had been scheduled for next Friday, March 13th. No other court dates have yet been set.
