Sutherland Man Faces Felony Drug Charges

Spencer MercerCherokee County, Iowa — A Sutherland man faces a laundry list of charges, including felony drug charges, after his arrest in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County Sheriff’s officials say their deputies conducted a traffic stop and discovered that 30-year old Spencer Mercer, of Sutherland, was driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Deputies say that, upon further investigation, they discovered Mercer to allegedly be in possession of, what they termed as, “supplies consistent with a meth lab” in his vehicle.

According to authorities, Mercer was arrested and booked into the Cherokee County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Cherokee County Deputies say the charges against Mercer include:   Possession With Intent To Manufacture or Deliver Methamphetamine, a Class C Felony; Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3rd Offense, a Class D Felony; Possession of Anhydrous Ammonia, a Serious Misdemeanor; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor; and Driving While License Suspended, a Serious Misdemeanor.
